Bernardino Luini (circa 1480/82 – June 1532) was a painter from northern Italy who was part of Leonardo da Vinci's circle during the High Renaissance. Both Luini and Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio are believed to have worked directly with Leonardo. Luini was noted for taking inspiration from Leonardo based on his own understanding of the master's techniques. As a result, many of his works were often mistakenly attributed to Leonardo. Luini was especially known for his graceful female figures, characterized by their elongated eyes, a style referred to as "Luinesque" by Vladimir Nabokov.
